Division staff will lead a forum on the best practices for growing your business by leveraging your NYS SDVOB certification. Hear from fellow SDVOBs who have experienced success, agency buyers and others to get ideas of how to start (and/or increase) securing contracts with the State and others.
Success After Service: Starting Your Small Business
Presented by: Anthony Kuhn, Tully Rinckey PLLC
From the formation of your business entity to employee considerations and contracts, this session will focus on everything veterans need to know about successfully starting a business. The program will also feature inside tips on how to create a key team of partners, such as finance, insurance and legal experts, to ensure that your new business is set up for success.

As your SDVOB grows value from your NYS certification, what are the steps that you should be taking to protect that value should you decide to retire or cannot continue for any reason. Your SDVOB would lose its NYS certification unless you have a plan to have a service-disabled veteran(s) or another SDVOB positioned to buy your business. Strategies to protect the SDVOB value will be presented and discussed.
How to Do Business with NYS

OGS Procurement Services will review the basics of how NYS agencies and authorities buy goods and services including topics such as discretionary spending, centralized contracts, how to find business opportunities and best practices for responding to bids.
Business Assistance for Veteran Entrepreneurs

Amy will discuss how VBOC assists our veterans, service members and service-connected family members start and grow their small businesses. We will discuss SDVOSB certifications, financing options, SBA guarantees and more.
Working with Banks and the SBA

Is your business in need of financing to cover contract mobilization costs, working capital, the purchase of fixed assets or even commercial real estate? In this session, you’ll learn about a variety of loan options currently available for your Veteran-owned business, including bank loans, SBA loans and loans from alternative lenders such as CDFIs who can offer both COVID relief and targeted Veteran/SDVBO programs. We will walk you through what is required to apply for the various programs, what lenders look for in a strong application, and how to increase your chances of getting funded. Get your specific questions answered by actual Lenders including Pursuit and Berkshire Bank.
